An Giang “Paved the Way” for Digital Agriculture Trends

In the digital age, human activities also begin to put on new clothes, including agricultural activities. Agriculture 4.0 (Digital Agriculture) uses nanotechnology, lighting technology, robotic technology,… to support human agricultural activities. For example: it helps to reduce loss and damage caused by natural disasters and pests, ensure environmental safety, control and reduce costs at each step or during production, processing and consumption.

Rice is a key commodity in Vietnam’s export chain. Therefore, the application of high technology to the process of growing and harvesting rice is indispensable. An Giang is a place of “good weather” to grow rice. However, they still apply techniques and technologies in rice farming, specifically: Applying lasers in the field, using transplanters, seed sprayers, spraying with drones, etc. Although according to the original planning target of An Giang province, it is 80,397 ha of rice (by 2020). But after applying these techniques, An Giang people have had a much higher income than originally planned (increasing by 20-25% per capita compared to conventional farming). In addition, rice yield also increased by 0.2-0.3 tons/ha on average, reducing production costs by 16-20%.

Thanks to the application of high-tech techniques and production and aquaculture, An Giang province continues to lead in the pangasius industry (reaching 80% of the province’s farming area). Besides, the male shrimp farming area accounting for 300 ha has been planned; applying microbiological technology to snakehead fish farming area up to 150 ha. In addition to investing in high technology in key products, An Giang also expands the areas for growing vegetables and fruit trees. Up to now, An Giang has formed a number of key areas, contributing to the growth of the country’s economy, such as: the concentrated mango production area has been granted a planting area code; green-skinned pomelo areas apply high-tech irrigation systems; orange and mandarin areas according to VietGAP process; fruit areas associated with consumption or ecotourism.
